Day 5
Result: -
Ashram Lost -£100
Midday Won +£816
Sonny Red Lost -£100
Road to Love Nr
P/L £2161
The Premier Stakes has the look of a good race with the Breeders Cup winner Donativum and the Sir Michael Stoute trained Zacinto both looking class animals in their own right but I think the other Godolphin runner Ashram(13/1 Betfair) could leave both of them in his wake and show his Jersey Stakes run at Ascot was no fluke where he had many of these behind him giving them 3 pounds.
The feature race on the card the Nassau Stakes can go to filly with this seasons best form and Epson Oaks 2nd Midday(100/30 Betfair)winning from another 3yo with good credentials High Heeled.
The Stewards Cup looks wide open with much speculation about which side to be on with respect to the draw. Low numbers looked to be holding sway on Thursday but who knows where an early pace runner will set the race up for a horse being 'towed' or a 'closer'. Every big meeting has this question raised be it Royal Ascot or the Newmarket July meeting and there is always somebody afterwards saying "I told you so". That said recent trends point to a 4 or 5 year old, drawn mid-high and this brings Sonny Red(11/1 Betfair) into the equation and he is being well supported showing as 2nd or joint favorite in most lists now.
In the last race, the Apprentice Stakes, Mark Johnston can finish off a good week with win from Road To Love (Weak 9/1 on Betfair at time of writing)
Stakes: - £100 Ashram £245 Midday £100 Sonny Red £100 Road to Love Day 4 Result: - Spirit Of Shajah -£100.
P/L= +£1545
The 2yo's take center stage in the Richmond Stakes and Rakaan looks to hold a good chance but I have little faith in the race been run to suit and will just watch with interest instead. Most of the races look close affairs with the exception of the Sprint Stakes where Spirit Of Sharjah looks to hold a very good chance despite his penalty and is still well handicapped on his old form.
Stakes: -
£100 Spirit Of Shajah --------------------------- Day 3
Result: -
Mourilyan Lost -£100.
Changing Of The Guard Lost -£50
Kingsgate Native Won +£700
Bonnie Charlie Nr
Mandurah Lost - £100 P/L= +£1645
The rain has come and the extent of its effect on ground conditions will not be apparent until after the early races! The highlight is the Goodwood Cup and Mourilyan(9/1 Betfair) comes to war with the best credentials and can win from a field full of promising stayers. William Muir's Enroller is held in very high regard by his trainer and is seen as a future Ascot Gold Cup winner. Centennial is another with promise and was not far behind Enroller in the John Porter Stakes at Newbury. In the first race, the Summer Vase Stakes, Richard Fahey's Changing Of The Guard(20/1 Betfair) was seen doing all his best work late on at Newmarket behind his stablemate Firebet and went in to many a notebook for that run. Paul Hanagan rides today. In the Audi Stakes, Kingsgate Native(7/1 Betfair) has something to prove after his last run and despite this I'm keeping faith with the Cheveley Park Stud owned colt to pay dividends ahead of Dandy Man. The XL Insurance Stakes could go the way of the Richard Hannon trained Bonnie Charlie(25/1 Betfair) who has form at the track behind Tuesdays winner Finjaan in last years Molecomb Stakes. His price is eye-catching despite carrying topweight. The last race, the Charlton Stakes, is a charge to the line but Dandy Nicholls's Mandurah(8/1 Betfair) rung some alarm bells in May this year when beating some highly rated runners with consummate ease. He is a danger to all in this Class. Stakes £100 Mourilyan £50 Changing Of The Guard £100 Kingsgate Native £50 Bonnie Charlie £100 Mandurah --------------------------- Day 2
Result: - Rip Van Winkle Won 6/4 * £500 = +£750.
P/L= +£1195
The Sussex Stakes looks to have a very strong field assembled and the market looks to have it right with Rip Van Winkle(6/4) heading the betting. His run behind the Epsom Derby winner, Sea The Stars, in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown is the standout piece of form. Paco Boy continues to surprise but he looks best at that odd distance of seven furlongs. Lord Shanakill should improve with age as his breeding suggests and could catch the selection sleeping. It now seems likely that a hoof problem will put the chances of the selection Rip Van Winkle taking part in jeopardy and if that is the case then Lord Shanakill would be my selection especially given the performance of Finjaan yesterday. Stakes: - £500 Rip Van Winkle. £150 Lord Shanakill (Reserve option) --------------------------- Day 1
Result: -
Finjaan Won 9/1 * £50 = +£450
Mastercraftsman Lost -£150
Monsieur Chevalier Won 8/11 * £200 = + £145
P/L = +£445
Tuesday see's the start of Glorious Goodwood and the highlight on day one is the Betfair Cup or the Lennox Stakes, as it was formerly known, surprisingly Richard Hannon has no entry in a race that his runners have traditionally fared well in. Godolphin have won this twice in the past and their Asset ran very well last time out when second to High Standing in the Wokingham at Ascot but that was a handicap. The most highly respected form on show is when Main Aim ran 2nd in the Group 1, Darley July Cup at HQ, but the time posted was a slow one and given that this seems a course to have experience at brings the value of Finjaan's(9/1) win in the Molecomb Stakes last year, although over five furlongs, to the fore and may well prove the line to follow. The Gordon Stakes looks to be at the mercy of Masterofthehorse(4/1) whilst the Hannon yard has the very useful Monsieur Chevalier(8/11) in the Molecomb Stakes. Stakes: - £50 on Finjaan £150 on Masterofthehorse £200 on Monsieur Chevalier
